Unit 3.12: Promote the personal, social and emotional development of children

This unit is part of the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator and has the following learning outcomes and assessment criteria:

  1. Understand personal, social and emotional development of children
    1. Describe the stages of personal, social and emotional development of children from birth to 7 years
  2. Understand theory and current frameworks underpinning personal, social and emotional development of children
    1. Describe theoretical perspectives in relation to personal, social and emotional development
    2. Analyse how theoretical perspectives in relation to personal, social and emotional development inform current frameworks
    3. Describe the role of the Early Years practitioner when promoting the personal, social and emotional development of children
  3. Be able to promote the personal, social and emotional development of children
    1. Create an environment which promotes the personal, social and emotional development of children in own setting
  4. Be able to implement an opportunity which promotes the personal, social and emotional development of children
    1. Plan an opportunity which promotes the personal, social and emotional development of children aged: 0-1 year 11 months, 2-2 years 11 months, 3-5 years
    2. Provide an opportunity which promotes the personal, social and emotional development of children aged: 0-1 year 11 months, 2-2 years 11 months, 3-5 years
    3. Describe the benefits to children’s holistic learning and development when promoting personal, social and emotional development
    4. Reflect on own role in relation to the provision for promoting the personal, social and emotional development of children in own setting
  5. Be able to critically evaluate the provision for the personal, social and emotional development of children in own setting
