This unit is part of the Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management for Adult Care (RQF) and has the following learning outcomes and assessment criteria:
- 1 Understand effective decision-making
- 1.1 Explain a range of situations for which decisions can be required in adult care
- 1.2 Analyse key stages in decision-making processes whether formal and informal
- 1.3 Explain the different meanings of ‘data, ’information’ and ‘intelligence’ and how each contributes to decision-making
- 1.4 Explain how to use evidence based practice to inform effective decision making
- 1.5 Evaluate the purposes and benefits of engaging with colleagues, individuals, their families, carers and others, and respecting their contributions during the decisionmaking process
- 1.6 Explain how to structure ideas, information and recommendations to maximise their effectiveness in decision-making
- 1.7 Explain how to review the information gathered in order to make a valid and evidence-based decision
- 2 Understand communication for decisionmaking
- 2.1 Explain the importance and methods for communicating with those involved in the decision-making process, including those using services and their families
- 2.2 Outline the range of stakeholders to whom a decision may need to be communicated
- 2.3 Explain how to present decisions, conclusions and rationales cogently to different stakeholders so that the decision wins support
- 3 Understand how to review decision-making
- 3.1 Evaluate the decision-making process, including the use of own research and thought processes, and the contributions made by others
- 3.2 Analyse the importance of monitoring the effects of decisions made and identifying learning points
- 3.3 Explain ways to record and disseminate learning points so that future decisionmaking in the service can be improved
