• Considerations for the creation of an environment which supports children’s emergent mathematical development include:
  • Are children encouraged by adults to explore mathematical concepts?
  • Do practitioners plan activities to support mathematical development?
  • Are resources easily accessible to the child (e.g. counting blocks, weighing scales etc.)
  • Do planned activities take into account a child’s age, stage of development and interests?
  • Is there a specific area in the setting that is dedicated to mathematical development?
