  • The transition to a school environment can be challenging for children and so it is important for Early Years Practitioners to take a holistic approach to preparation
  • This can include:
    • Being positive about the transition and providing children with reassurance and emotional support
    • Ensuring the children understand the differences between an Early Years setting and a school setting (e.g. talking about the changes, visiting the school, inviting teachers to visit etc.)
    • Teaching of life skills, such as dressing, toileting, eating, drinking etc.)
    • Teaching of appropriate behaviours (e.g. sharing, turn-taking, cooperation, conflict management, managing emotions, tidying etc.)
    • Working with parents/carers including sharing information, providing advice and maintaining consistency between the home and Early Years settings
