- When changes are made to systems and processes, it is important to measure and evaluate their impact
- This is because it tells us if the change has been successful or not
- The measurement method used will be intrinsically tied to the specific situation, however, some example metrics that may be used include:
- Number of complaints (e.g. has the change led to a fall in the number of complaints an organisation receives related to a particular area of practice)
- Number of accidents (e.g. has the change led to a fall in the number of accidents related to a particular area of practice)
- Cost savings (e.g. has the change led to monetary savings in an area of operations)
- To evaluate if a change has had a positive or negative effect (or no effect at all) it is important that there is existing data with which to compare the new data against
