  • Poor performance and unacceptable conduct can be addressed by organisations in several ways:
  • Informal processes:
    • Challenging poor practice
    • Asking team members the reasons behind performance issues (e.g. they may have been late for their shift because of issues with childcare etc.)
    • Explaining to team members why behaviours and attitudes are inappropriate and answering any questions they may have
    • Offering solutions
  • Formal processes:
    • Formal processes are usually invoked if the manager has seen no improvement following informal processes or if the issue is particularly serious
    • Discussion and recording of issues during supervision and appraisal
    • Disciplinary action (e.g. verbal warning, written warning, contract termination etc.)
