Assessment criteria: 2.1 Critically compare the formal and informal processes an organisation can use to address poor performance and unacceptable conduct
- Poor performance and unacceptable conduct can be addressed by organisations in several ways:
- Informal processes:
- Challenging poor practice
- Asking team members the reasons behind performance issues (e.g. they may have been late for their shift because of issues with childcare etc.)
- Explaining to team members why behaviours and attitudes are inappropriate and answering any questions they may have
- Offering solutions
- Formal processes:
- Formal processes are usually invoked if the manager has seen no improvement following informal processes or if the issue is particularly serious
- Discussion and recording of issues during supervision and appraisal
- Disciplinary action (e.g. verbal warning, written warning, contract termination etc.)
