Unit 11: Supervision and Performance Management in Adult Care

This unit is part of the Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management for Adult Care (RQF) and has the following learning outcomes and assessment criteria:

  1. 1 Understand supervision in adult care
    1. 1.1 Analyse the principles, scope and purpose of supervision in adult care
    2. 1.2 Explain the key principles of what makes supervision effective
    3. 1.3 Explain how to use supervision to plan, revise and review team member objectives and help inform performance management
    4. 1.4 Explain how to address factors that result in a power imbalance in supervision and how to address them
    5. 1.5 Analyse how and why approaches to supervision might need to be adapted in the light of feedback from supervisees and others
  2. 2 Understand procedures to address performance management issues
    1. 2.1 Critically compare the formal and informal processes an organisation can use to address poor performance and unacceptable conduct
    2. 2.2 Evaluate the manager’s role in addressing poor performance and how this will relate to organisational policy and procedures
    3. 2.3 Explain common features of disciplinary and grievance procedures and how the manager’s role relates to these
