- Early Years Practitioners should ensure that children have several opportunities to develop their speech, language and communication skills
- The environment should be conducive to the development of language skills (e.g. background noise should be reduced, the child should feel comfortable etc.)
- Similalrly, the child should feel comfortable, safe and secure in the environment
- Children should have opportunities to interact with both adults and other children
- Early Years Practitioners should spend time with children to help them to develop their communication skills – this includes planning appropriate activities and providing resources and equipment
- Activities that promote the development of speech, language and communication can include:
- Reading books
- Exploring resources/objects
- Singing rhymes and songs
- Roleplay and small world play
