• All children learn at different rates
• In addition, some children may have additional needs (e.g. a physical disability or learning disability) that can affect their learning and development
• A difficulty in one area of development can affect other areas of development
• E.g. if a child has autism and prefers to spend time alone, this can affect their language development because they will have less interaction with others
• E.g. if a child has a physical disability and is dependent on others, this can affect their confidence and emotional development
