- Personal information about individuals with autism must be kept confidential
- This can include ensuring written records are not left in public spaces and that practitioners do not talk about an individual in a space where they may be overheard by others
- Personal information should only be recorded using secure systems
- Consent should be obtained from an individual before sharing information about them with others
- There may be times when confidentiality rules will need to be overridden – for example, if there is a safeguarding concern
- When this happens, information should only be shared on a ‘need-to-know’ basis
