• It is important to work in partnership with the individual and others because:
  • It gives the individual choice and control over their lives – individuals with autism should be considered an expert of themselves and be treated as an equal partner
  • It ensures practitioners work in person-centred way
  • It ensures that care and support services meet the needs, wishes and preferences of the individual (e.g. parents of individuals with autism will often have unique insights into their child’s needs)
  • Health and care professionals can provide expert clinical advice about how to support an individual with autism effectively
