- Person-centred support is an approach to providing care and support services that treats all care recipients as unique individuals with unique needs, wishes, strengths and preferences
- To put it into context, historically, services used a ‘one-size fits all’ approach, where individuals had to fit in with pre-existing services – these services were not suitable for everyone because not everyone is the same
- Some person-centred values include:
- Respect
- Dignity and privacy
- Partnership-working
- Collaboration
- Individuality
- Choice
- Independence
- Empowerment
- Person-centred support ensures that individuals are valued, their views are respected and they (and their family/carers, where appropriate) are an active partner in developing their care and support plan
