- Prepare the Environment: If possible, make any necessary adjustments to the environment in advance, according to the plan’s specifications.
- Gather Necessary Equipment: Ensure all assistive devices or equipment required by the plan are ready and functional.
- Offer Reassurance: Provide emotional support and encouragement to the individual, addressing any anxieties or concerns they may have.
- Implement Support Strategies: Follow the support strategies outlined in the plan, providing physical assistance, guidance, or navigational help as agreed.
- Communicate Clearly: Maintain clear and open communication throughout, offering instructions or information in a way that is easy for the individual to understand.
- Monitor Comfort and Safety: Continuously observe the individual’s comfort and safety, ready to adjust the approach if necessary.
- Encourage Independence: Support the individual to take as much control as possible, encouraging independence while ensuring safety.
- Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback and praise to the individual, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.
- Reflect on the Experience: After negotiating the environment, discuss the experience with the individual, identifying what worked well and what could be improved.
