  • Early Years Practitioners should work with others, including parents, carers and health professionals to support a child’s emergent literacy
  • Practitioners and parents/carers should communicate regularly to exchange information about a child’s language development (e.g. a parent may share that their child said their first word)
  • Working in partnership with parents also facilitates sharing information about a child’s interests and rpeferences, which can be used to encourage the child to develop their language skills
  • Practitioners can also support parents and carers to support their child (e.g. by encouraging parents to regulalrly chat with their child, loaning resources, such as books etc.)
  • Some children may require additional support from health professionals, such as occupational therapists or speech and language therapists
