• Early Years Practitioners should be able to use a variety ofcommunication methods to meet the needs and preferences of the individuals that they work with including children, parents, carers, co-workers and other professionals
• E.g. if a co-worker has a hearing impairment, you may to ensure that you face them when talking so that they can read your lips
• E.g. if a parent has a learning disability, you may learn and use Makaton as a communication aid
• E.g. if a child is a going into hospital for a surgical procedure, you may prepare them for the experience by using roleplay to communicate what they can expect
