  • Agreed ways of working with your employer should be followed, relating to the storage and administration of medication
  • Storage of medication
    • Should conform to COSHH regulations
    • Should be secure and not accessible by children
  • Administration of medication
    • Where training for medication administration is required, the employer must provide it
    • Written permission must be obtained from the parent/carer
    • Precription medicines may only be administered if they have been precribed to the child by a medical professional
    • Medicine should be administered according to the instructions and the expiry date checked
    • The details for the medication, child, dosage, time and date should be checked before administration
  • Record-keeping with regard to medication
    • There must be a record of all medication that is administered to a child
    • This will include the name of the child, the name of the medicine, the dosage given, the reason for administration and the date and time
    • Any side effects should also be recorded and relayed to parents/carers
