- Should be secure and not accessible by children

- Where training for medication administration is required, the employer must provide it
- Written permission must be obtained from the parent/carer
- Precription medicines may only be administered if they have been precribed to the child by a medical professional
- Medicine should be administered according to the instructions and the expiry date checked
- The details for the medication, child, dosage, time and date should be checked before administration
- Record-keeping with regard to medication
- There must be a record of all medication that is administered to a child
- This will include the name of the child, the name of the medicine, the dosage given, the reason for administration and the date and time
- Any side effects should also be recorded and relayed to parents/carers
