- Holistic learning and development refers to the childs learning and development as a whole (e.g. physical, cognitive, emotional social etc.)
- The promotion of physical development to children can contribute to their development in other areas
- “Movement is at the very centre of young children’s lives. It is an important facet of all aspects of their development, whether in the motor, cognitive, or affective domains of human behaviour.” ~ Gallahue, 1993
- E.g. physical group games such as hide-and-seek or board games can support a child’s social development as they learn things like taking turns etc.
- E.g. when babies become mobile they have more opportunities to interact with their environment
- E.g. being able to touch and manipulate objects in their hands supports a child’s cognitive development as they learn more about things in their environment
- E.g. being able to point to objects or move them can support a child that is learning to count
