- Job descriptions describe the duties, roles and responsibilities of the individual that is in the position
- Person specifications describe the characteristics of the person that is in the position
- These documents are used to ensure that the person working in a particular role has the skills, experience, qualifications, values and other pre-requisites to perform their job effectively
- They also ensure that the person understands what they can and cannot do as part of their role (the scope)
