Qualification: Manager Induction Standards
Unit: Standard 1: Leadership and management
Learning outcome: 1.1. Leadership and management in adult care settings
Assessment criteria: 1.1.3 Explain why management and leadership styles may need to be adapted to manage different situations
- The styles we use for management and leadership may need to be adapted depending on the situation
- For example, a manager may usually use a democratic style of leadership, where decision-making is shared amongst the team, however, in an emergency situation the leader may switch to a more directive style, where staff are told what to do because it is a time-sensitive situation and there is not enough time for discussion
- For example, a leader with a well-established team composed of competent and confident team members may be given a lot more autonomy and less micromanagement
