- Care Act 2014
- Local Authorities must set up Safeguarding Adult Boards (SABs) and follow up concerns about abuse and neglect
- Six principles of safeguarding – Empowerment, prevention, proportionality, protection, partnerships, accountability
- The Health and Social Care Act 2012 – set up CQC to oversee governance and inspection of care services (to safeguard and protect vulnerable individuals from poor care services) and ensure fundamental standards are followed
- The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 – Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to ensure anyone working with children or vulnerable adults undergoes a background check
- The Mental Capacity Act 2005 – protects the rights of individuals that may not have the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves
- Liberty Protection Safeguards – formerly DoLS, safeguards vulnerable people by providing a robust system for the application to restrict/restrain an individual for their own protection if they require medical treatment and are unable to consent
- The Sexual Offences Act 2003 – defines what constitures a sexual offence, has sections relating to mental capacity and consent
- Modern Slavery Act 2015 – protects individuals from enslaved and exploited
- The Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 – protects individuals that disclose concerns about harm, abuse and neglect (whistleblowing)
