  • You may provide information about safeguarding children and young people to others during formal training, team meetings, supervision etc.
  • Indicators of harm, abuse or neglect include include:
    • Physical abuse – unexplained injuries, fear, trying to hide injuries
    • Emotional abuse – withdrawal, depression, anxiety, fear
    • Domestic abuse – as physical/emotional abuse
    • Sexual abuse – knowledge of sexual terminology, uncomfortable to walk/sit, soiled/bloodied/torn underwear, pregnancy, STIs
    • Neglect – dishevelled appearance, dirty/ripped clothing, unwashed
    • Child sexual exploitation – as sexual abuse
    • Female Genital Mutilation – long trips abroad, other family members have experienced FGM, relatives visiting from abroad and the child taking time off school, child runs away
    • Child Trafficking – child does a lot of chores, child does not leave house, do not appear to have parents/carer, unsure of the area they live in, do not speak English
    • Radicalisation – self-isolation, anger, scripted speech, reluctant to share views, disrespectful, secretive
