1.2 Analyse how theoretical models of management and leadership can be applied to a range of situations in a work setting

Qualification: Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care Optional Units
Unit: Unit 650 Understand professional management and leadership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
Learning outcome: 1. Understand theories of management and leadership and their application to health and social care or children and young people settings
Assessment criteria: 1.2 Analyse how theoretical models of management and leadership can be applied to a range of situations in a work setting

  • For this section, you may need to refer back to some of the theories explored here
  • Lewin’s leadership styles – team members will be more motivated if a democratic approach to leadership is used; however, there will be times (such as during an emergency) where it is more appropriate to use an autocratic style because there is no time to discuss the situation and action must be taken immediately.
  • Hersey & Blanchard’s Situational Leadership – a new member of staff that has not worked in care before will need a lot of direction and support, whereas an experienced staff member may need little direction because they are highly skilled but still require support to keep them motivated.

  1. Thanks so much for the website it’s been such a brilliant help throughout my nvq. I’m finishing my last unit 650 and struggling with this long and confusing one, I would be ever so great full if you could prioritise this unit
    Kind regards
