4.6 Reflect on own practice in relation to equality and diversity

Qualification: Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care
Unit: Equality and diversity in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
Learning outcome: Be able to work in a way that supports equality, diversity and inclusion
Assessment criteria: 4.6 Reflect on own practice in relation to equality and diversity

  • Many individuals are discriminatory without realising it
  • Therefore, it is important to reflect on your own practice to identify any areas relating to equality and diversity that could be improved
  • E.g. you arrange a picnic for residents but the vegetarian meals are signifcantly smaller than the regular meals and this is pointed out to you by a Hindi service user. Was this inadvertant discrimination on your part because you did not accommodate her religious beliefs in an equitable way compared to residents of other religions?
