• Equality Act 2010 – makes it unlawful to discriminate against individuals based on one or more of nine protected characteristics – gender, age, disability, marital status (including civil partnerships), sexual orientation, gender reassignment, race, religion, pregnancy/maternity
• Human Rights Act 1998 – sets out the freedoms and liberties that all citizens can expect
• Mental Capacity Act 2005 – protects individuals that may not have the mental capacity to make their own decisions
