Learning outcome: 1 Understand outcomes-based and person-centred practice
Assessment criteria: 1.4 Evaluate the effect that legislation and policy may have on person-centred and outcomes-based practice and procedures
- Current legislation and policy promote person-centred and outcomes-based practices and procedures within UK healthcare
- Care providers that do use these approaches can face regulatory and legal implications
- The Care Act 2014 statutory guidance states:
- “The core purpose of adult care and support is to help people to achieve the outcomes that matter to them in their life.“
- “Considering the person’s views and wishes is critical to a person-centred system. Local authorities should not ignore or downplay the importance of a person’s own opinions in relation to their life and their care.“
- The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 contain several regulations that promote person0centred and outcomes-based practice including:
- Regulation 9: Person-centred care
- Regulation 10: Dignity and respect
- Regulation 11: Need for consent
- Therefore, it is the obligation of all care providers to ensure that their local policies and procedures are based upon outcomes-based and person-centred practices
