• Active participation is an approach that aims to empower individuals receiving care and support services to be involved in decisions that affect their lives, rather than simply a passive recipient
• This supports individuals to achieve positive outcomes (outcomes that are important to them) because they have been able to express their wishes and aspirations and participated in the planning process
• As we explored in the previous section, being involved, valued and respected increases an individual’s self-esteem and contributes to their overall wellbeing
