  • There should be systems and processes in place to ensure that individuals and those important to them (e.g. family, friends, carers etc.) can be involved in day-to-day practice, decision-making and review
  • Systems and processes could include:
    • Asking an individual who they would like to participate in the care planning
    • Ensuring there are records of the people that are closest to the individual
    • Ensuring these people are contacted when and encouraged to participate when there is a review due
    • Nurture a culture of valuing and respecting everybody’s contributions
    • Arranging for an advocate to speak on behalf of the individual if they are unable to do so for themselves
