- Legal requirements relating to the gathering, storing and sharing of information are covered by the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
- Some of the principle requirements include:
- Only collecting data for lawful purposes
- Only using data for the stated purposes
- Only collecting as much data as is required for the purpose
- Ensuring the data is accurate and having adequate systems in place to check this
- Not keeping data for longer than is required
- Data must be protected with adequate security measures
