  • The implications for an organisation of each of the grades that can be awarded by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are as follows:
    • Outstanding – Improved reputation and public confidence, easier to get new clients and easier to market because this grade is harder to obtain and is a unique selling point (USP)
    • Good – Good reputation and public confidence, the reasons that they didn’t achieve outstanding will be discussed and they will know what they need to do to improve
    • Requires improvement – Poor public confidence reputation, more difficult to new clients, CQC will work with the organisation to help it improve, if it doesn’t improve CQC will take further action
    • Inadequate – Very poor public confidence and reputation, more difficult to get new clients, action by CQC can include fines, cautions, requirement notices, prosecution or placing a provider in special measures
