Qualification: Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management for Adult Care (RQF)
Unit: Unit 3: Governance in Adult Care
Learning outcome: 1 Understand the legislative and policy context of adult care provision
Assessment criteria: 1.3 Explain the meaning and importance of ‘personalisation’ as a key concept in adult care policy
- Personalisation is a model of social care, whereby individuals receiving care have much greater choice about how their care package is planned for and delivered
- It means that individuals can use a personal budget, paid to them by the local authority to arrange their own services to meet their needs
- Previously, the local authorities would commission services for individuals based on what the assessor felt that they needed
- As well as ensuring that individuals have choice and control over their care, it also helps them to maintain their dignity and have more self-esteem, which can contribute towards their wellbeing
