Qualification: Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management for Adult Care (RQF)
Unit: Unit 2: Team Leadership in Adult Care
Learning outcome: 2 Understand team development in adult care
Assessment criteria: 2.7 Describe ways to develop the team to address challenges that arise
- Newly-formed teams usually require a lot of direction from the leader, however, when a team becomes established, the leader will want to develop the team so that they can be more autonomous and able to deal with challenges themselves
- The leader will document and role-model the way that challenges should be addressed and pass this skill onto the rest of the team
- The team may also be developed to address particular challenges that arise
- E.g. if a client develops more complex needs, team members may require additional training to provide effective care and support
- E.g. if a conflict develops between two team members, the leader may speak to them individually to help them to see things from the others’ point of view or provide mediation
