• Areas of support that individuals, their families and carers may need to be effective members of the team include:
  • Explaining that their perspectives are important and will be valued
  • Encouraging them to voice their concerns and views
  • Provision of communication equipment, where required
  • Provision of an independent advocate, where required
  • Ensuring all team members understand the communication needs of the individual (e.g. if an individual has a learning disability, team members should refrain from using clinical jargon or long sentences etc.)
