Unit 17: Manage Self for Leadership in Adult Care

This unit is part of the Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management for Adult Care (RQF) and has the following learning outcomes and assessment criteria:

  1. 1 Understand the importance of selfawareness
    1. 1.1 Explain how own values, belief systems and experiences can affect work practice either in a positive or a negative manner.
    2. 1.2 Describe how own emotions can affect own behaviour and in turn the behaviour of others
    3. 1.3 Describe strategies for keeping aware of own stress levels and for maintaining wellbeing
    4. 1.4 Evaluate how to use feedback and reflective practice to increase self-awareness of own values, behaviours and actions
  2. 2 Understand how to manage own behaviour
    1. 2.1 Explain how to ensure own actions reflect a high standard of personal integrity
    2. 2.2 Describe strategies for managing own emotions when interacting with others
    3. 2.3 Explain ways to adapt own communication in response to the emotional context and communication style of others
  3. 3 Understand how to manage own workload
    1. 3.1 Evaluate strategies and tools for identifying work priorities
    2. 3.2 Evaluate strategies and tools to reduce own stress levels, build resilience and support own wellbeing while meeting work priorities
    3. 3.3 Explain how digital technology can be used to enhance own efficiency
    4. 3.4 Explain how and when to delegate responsibilities appropriately to others
  4. 4 Understand own role to champion the vision and values of the service
    1. 4.1 Analyse the importance of ensuring own words and actions reinforce the vision and values of the service
    2. 4.2 Evaluate ways to challenge and promote change in views, actions, systems and routines that do not match the vision and values of the service
  5. 5 Understand how to manage own learning and continuing professional development
    1. 5.1 Explain ways to evaluate own knowledge and performance and identify areas for development using: • standards and benchmarks • sources and systems of support • feedback from others • reflection on successes and failures, mistakes and achievements
    2. 5.2 Evaluate the tools and strategies available to develop a personal learning plan
    3. 5.3 Explain ways to evaluate the effectiveness of own learning
