Assessment criteria: 3.4 Explain the types of situations where a restrictive practice might need to be used
- Restrictive practices should only be used as a last resort and even then the least restrictive option should always be used and the practice should only be implemented for as long as is needed
- Situations, where a restrictive practice might need to be used, could include:
- an individual displaying violent behaviours that are likely to cause harm to themselves or someone else
- an individual with dementia may regularly get confused and lost in the local community and so there is a need to keep doors locked for their own safety (see DoLS/LPS for further information)
