Learning outcome: 2 Understand the responsibility of the manager to safeguard children and young people encountered in an adult care service
Assessment criteria: 2.2 Explain the actions to take if: • there are concerns about the possible abuse of a child or young person • a child or young person alleges that they are being abused
- If there are concerns about the possible abuse of a child or young person:
- a written record should be made of the concern
- the concern should be passed on to a manager or safeguarding lead immediately
- the concern should be passed on to the relevant authorities – this will often be by the local authority’s social services children’s team but in serious cases, police assistance may be required
- If a child or young person alleges that they are being abused:
- the child should be reassured that he will do everything you can to protect them
- a written record of the concern should be made
- the concerns should be passed on to the relevant authorities and a manager or safeguarding lead informed immediately
- the child should be informed that the information will have to be shared with others
