• Barriers to effective communication include:
  • Environmental (e.g. noise, temperature, lighting, distractions etc.)
  • Physical (e.g. geographical area, a closed door etc.)
  • Physical conditions (e.g. visual impairments, hearing impairments etc.)
  • Mental conditions (e.g. schizophrenia, depression)
  • Cognitive conditions (e.g. learning disability, brain injury etc.)
  • Substance abuse
  • Being disinterested
  • Poor relationships/lack of trust
