Unit 389 Supporting meaningful activity and independence through positive risk taking and Active Support

This unit is one of the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care Optional Units and has the following learning outcomes and assessment criteria:

1. 1 Understand the value base and benefits of Active Support

   3. 1.3 Describe the benefits of engagement and participation for: 1.3 A people with learning disabilities 1.3 B people with autism autistic people 1.3 C others
   4. 1.4 Describe models of working
   5. 1.5 Describe how models of care can be used to contribute to Active Support
   6. 1.6 Identify potential barriers to maximizing engagement and participation.
   7. 1.7 Explain ways to overcome barriers to maximizing engagement and participation for individuals
2. 2 Understand positive interaction and hierarchy of help
   1. 2.1 Describe positive interaction
   2. 2.2 Describe the application of the hierarchy of help
   3. 2.3 Explain how the hierarchy of help can be used in Active Support planning
3. 3 Be able to use Active Support to facilitate participation and maximise engagement of the individual and others
   1. 3.1 Identify opportunities for an individual to participate in meaningful activities
   2. 3.2 Explain why the practitioners’ duty of care must be balanced with the individuals’ right to take risks
   3. 3.3 Develop an Active Support plan for an individual which includes a risk assessment
   4. 3.4 Demonstrate positive interaction and graded support
