- When conflicts/dilemmas occur between duty of care and an individual’s rights:
- you should always respect the individual’s right to make their own decisions, as long as they have the mental capacity
- this is true even if you feel their choice is not in their best interests of do not agree with it yourself
- you should ensure that the individual is fully aware of the risks and possible repercussions
- you should work with the individual to develop a risk assessment that can minimise of eliminate negative consequnces
