  • ‘School Readiness’ refers to a child being ready to make the transition from an early years setting to Year 1 of school
  • Some characteristics of school readiness include:
    • Independence (e.g. in toileting, dressing etc.) and able to separate from parents/carers for the duration of school hours
    • Confidence – feels comfortable with having new experiences
    • Communication – able to follow instructions and express themselves appropriately
    • Concentration – able to sit still for short durations and able to focus on learning activities
    • Collaboration – able to take turns, share, and cooperate
    • Emotional intelligence – able to regulate emotions (to the level expected of their age) and understands expected behaviours
