- ‘School Readiness’ refers to a child being ready to make the transition from an early years setting to Year 1 of school
- Some characteristics of school readiness include:
- Independence (e.g. in toileting, dressing etc.) and able to separate from parents/carers for the duration of school hours
- Confidence – feels comfortable with having new experiences
- Communication – able to follow instructions and express themselves appropriately
- Concentration – able to sit still for short durations and able to focus on learning activities
- Collaboration – able to take turns, share, and cooperate
- Emotional intelligence – able to regulate emotions (to the level expected of their age) and understands expected behaviours
