- Effective partnership working with parents and carers is essential for supporting the emergent literacy of children
- Practitionersshould encourage parents and carers to take an active role in their child’s play, learning and development by:
- Explaining the important of interaction and communication
- Suggesting activities in line with the child’s age, stage of development and interests (e.g. reading, songs, rhymes, word/sound games, mark-making etc.)
- Offering resources, such as books, that the child can take home and read with parents
- Chit chat – any conversation or discussion can support a child’s learning
