  • Types of environment include:
    • Indoor environments
    • Outdoor environments
    • Emotional environments
  • Indoor and outdoor environments describe the physical space and will include room layout, furniture, resources, toys and books
  • The emotional environment of an early years setting should be positive and aim to make all children feel safe, secure and included and facilitate their development
  • Factors that contribute to a positive emotional environment include:
    • Social – relationship with key person, relationship with other children, feeling included, opportunities to interact with others
    • Cultural – promotion of equality and diversity, sensitive to different cultures
    • Personal – positive values and beliefs of the adults in the environment, positive role modeling
