• Some examples of how technology (such as tablets, computers and phones) can support the development of a child’s speech, language and communication include:
  • Reading books – some books may be interactive
  • Watching television programs and movies
  • Play learning games, such as matching words with pictures
  • Look at photographs/videos – this should also involve discussion with others about what is being seen
  • Recording devices – to record and play back speech
  • It is important for Early Years Practitioners to understand that technology should be used appropriately and too much screen time can be harmful to a child’s development
