• Legislation relating to equality, diversity and inclusive practice includes:
  • Equality Act 2010 – makes it unlawful to discriminate against somebody based on their age, gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, gender reassignment, marital/civil partnership status, pregnancy/maternity and disability
  • Human Rights Act 1998 – sets out the freedoms and liberties that can be expected by everyone
  • United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) – protects the rights of children and ensures they have a voice
  • Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001 – protects the rights of children with disabilities
  • The Children & Families Act 2014 – legislates for the SEND Code of Practice (below)
  • SEND Code of Practice 2014 – protects the rights of children with disabilities
