- If harm or abuse is suspected and/or disclosed, an Early Years Practitioner should:
- Listen carefully and reassure the child
- Ask open questions (not leading questions)
- Do not promise that you will keep it confidential (you may have to report it in the best interest of the child)
- Record the concern/disclosure in writing
- Immediately discuss your concerns with your orhganisation’s safeguarding lead or your manager
- Follow up to find out if any action has been taken
- If you feel the response is unsatisfactory, you should discuss further with your safeguarding lead – you may need to whistleblow to an outside agency if you feel there is a safety risk
