  • If harm or abuse is suspected and/or disclosed, an Early Years Practitioner should:
    • Listen carefully and reassure the child
    • Ask open questions (not leading questions)
    • Do not promise that you will keep it confidential (you may have to report it in the best interest of the child)
    • Record the concern/disclosure in writing
    • Immediately discuss your concerns with your orhganisation’s safeguarding lead or your manager
    • Follow up to find out if any action has been taken
    • If you feel the response is unsatisfactory, you should discuss further with your safeguarding lead – you may need to whistleblow to an outside agency if you feel there is a safety risk
