  • Legislation are legal requirements set out by the government
  • Policies are guidance for how an organisation performs actions or makes decisions. Because it is guidance, policies are flexible and not specific. For example, your organisation will have a policy for safeguarding children.
  • Procedures are specific ways that activities are performed. For example, your organisation will have a safeguarding children procedure that explains exactly what should be done if a member of staff suspects a child is being abused.
  • Both policies and procedures will be written to ensure that all staff comply with legislation and best practices.
