- Post-natal care should be provided for both mother and baby
- For mother :
- there should be discussions about the signs and symptoms of common physical and mental health issues following birth
- the importance of pelvic floor exercises should be discussed
- general health should be discussed, including any concerns the woman has and where they may obtain support
- fatigue, caring for baby, postpartum bleeding and sexual intercourse should be discussed
- any safeguarding concerns should be reported
- support should be given for breastfeeding
- For baby:
- full health check of baby should be performed within 72 hours of birth and again at 6-8 weeks later
- weight and head circumference to be measured
- any safeguarding concerns should be reported
